What it costs, measured rather than promised

Every thread about this kind of app is somebody asking whether it will ruin their battery or their frame rate. On Windows, Wallgami answers that in the app, live, with the real numbers — including the ones that make it look bad. The figures below are from Windows; Mac figures will follow.

1080p video, 30 fps, on two screens
225 MB
Processor, in that same state
2.0%
Discrete graphics card used
0%
Graphics memory once stopped
95 MB

Measured on 26 August 2026 on a two-monitor Windows laptop, using a generated test clip so the same run can be repeated on any machine. Each figure is the median of three separate launches.

It uses the graphics chip your laptop already has

On a Windows laptop with two graphics chips, Wallgami decodes and draws on the integrated one by default, so the power-hungry card stays genuinely asleep — not lightly used, but showing no activity at all. If you would rather it used the fast one, that is a setting.

And it tells you the expensive part

Web wallpapers are the costly kind: about 620 MB and 8.8% of the processor in all, 504 MB and 8.1% of it in eight browser processes. Those are somebody else's processes, so it would be easy to leave them out of the meter and quote a much smaller number. On Windows, Wallgami shows them next to its own.

What it costs to have

Free.

Wallgami is free. There is no subscription, no trial that runs out, nothing metered, and nothing that switches itself off later. If it earns a place on your desktop, a way to chip in will appear here — it will never be required.

Get Wallgami

Free, for Mac and Windows 11.

Free. Version 0.9.8 · 108 MB · macOS 14 Sonoma or newer, on a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later).

  1. Find Wallgami in your Downloads. Safari unzips it for you; otherwise, double-click the zip.
  2. Drag Wallgami into Applications. On an account that is not an administrator, macOS asks for an administrator’s password here.
  3. Open it. macOS asks once whether to open an app downloaded from the internet. Wallgami is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so there is no warning to get past.

After that it keeps itself up to date, when you say so.

Free. Version 0.9.8 · 110 MB · Windows 11, build 26100 or newer (24H2 / 25H2), 64-bit.

  1. Edge may say the file “isn’t commonly downloaded”, because it is new and not code-signed yet. Click … beside it and choose Keep; when Edge asks again, open the arrow beside Delete and choose Keep anyway.
  2. Open the installer from your Downloads. It installs for you alone, so it does not ask for an administrator. If Windows shows a blue “Windows protected your PC” box, click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Click through the installer. It can also fetch the optional AI upscaler (about 43 MB) and start Wallgami with Windows; both are yours to untick.

After that it keeps itself up to date, when you say so.
